A grieving mother uploads the consciousness of her tragically killed daughter, Iris, into a stolen synthetic body.
Torn out of her idyllic digital world and left on the run in an oppressive futuristic city, Iris must confront her body's objectification and its violent capabilities, as well as the consequences of her mother's actions. VENUS is a thrilling and thought-provoking cyberpunk story with modern-day relevance, directed by Andrew McGee. |

The StoryVENUS is a live action short film starring Margaret Clunie (Victoria, Last Christmas) and Phoebe French (Holby City), which recieved critical acclaim and 11 Best Sci-Fi Short awards during its international festival run. As well as being a self-contained short story, we are now using it as a proof of concept to develop a full-length feature film.
It's a story inspired by cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, and The Matrix, and more broadly films such as Ex Machina and Under the Skin. VENUS embraces the action, excitement, and compelling visuals of the genre, while sensitively exploring themes of identity, autonomy, and objectification from a unique perspective. |
Over four long nights, the cast and crew of VENUS worked hard through wet and freezing conditions to make this incredibly ambitious story a reality. We pulled it off, transforming the already impressive locations into stunning neon-lit visions of a dark futuristic world, grounded by wonderful performances.
The film was brought to life thanks to two brilliantly successful Kickstarter campaigns, and is now live on YouTube after screening at festivals worldwide. The final result is an exciting and beautifully-shot story, with strong potential for our ultimate goal of adapting it into a feature film. Thank you so much to those of you who put your faith into the film and its team! |
